The Inforday and Seminar on EU FP7 and Science & Technology Diplomat Service Program was held in Wuhan on May 26, 2010. The event was co-sponsored by China Science and Technology Exchange Center and Hubei Provincial Science & Technology Department and organized by Hubei Foreign S&T Exchange Center and Wuhan S&T Industrialization Service Center. Zhong Xiying, Chief of Discipline Inspection Group of Hubei Provincial Science & Technology Department, and Chen Heping, Deputy Director-General of China Science and Technology Exchange Center, attended and addressed the meeting and Wang Yaning, Deputy Director-General of Wuhan Science & Technology Bureau, also attended the meeting.
Statistics show that Hubei Province has conducted more than 180 S&T cooperation projects with EU, including 120 between governments. The province has been leading the country in winning the bidding of over 30 EU FP projects. For the past three years, in particular, Hubei has won project approval and funding support from the International S&T Cooperation Program of China for more than 10 projects with EU annually.
The meeting aimed at promoting China-EU S&T cooperation under EU FP7, encouraging participation of colleges, research institutions and enterprises and deepening S&T research cooperation between the China and EU. “Science & Technology Diplomat Service Program” is an effort to expand the width and depth of China’s international cooperation in science and technology through Chinese diplomats worldwide and facilitate corporate innovations.
About 230 people representing local S&T authorities in Hubei Province and colleges, research institutions and enterprises from Wuhan attended the meeting. Ninety of them were corporate representatives.
Dong Keqin from CSTEC-CECO and Wang Lei from CSTEC Resources and Facility Division provided briefings on the EU FP7 and Science & Technology Diplomat Service Program. Four representatives from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University, Hubei University and Hubei Earthquake Research Institute shared their experience in FP7 project cooperation and in the applications for S&T projects between governments. Representatives from CSTEC-CECO and CSTEC Resources and Facility Division exchanged views with participants and answered their questions. The meeting was a great success.
