EU-CHINA science and technology week world Expo 2010 Shanghai CHINA 14 -18 June 2010

The EU-China Science and Technology Week organized as part of the European Pavilion at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai China will bring together high-level policy-makers, leading researchers and science journalists from the European Union and China, to share knowledge, experience and aspirations.

 

A four-day comprehensive, highly focused programme of science policy meetings, scientific workshops, press briefings, and science events, will allow EU and Chinese participants to assess joint achievements, exchange success stories, and set out new perspectives and new opportunities to work together to build “Better Cities, Better Lives”.

 

Research, science and innovation are key to ensuring that our cities develop in a sustainable way. They can give us the solutions needed to build a better future, by ensuring growth and prosperity, while improving the quality of people’s lives.

 

The EU-China Science and Technology Week will be a unique opportunity to :

 

build on the existing work done together between the EU and China, particularly through the Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement, and identify future research priorities for an even better EU - China Science Cooperation

 

give visibility to the most promising research projects involving European and Chinese partners working together on urban development and related themes (energy, health, biotechnologies, transport, climate change, knowledge-sharing), the hottest topics of our age.

 

help young Chinese researchers find out about the new opportunities for international mobility offered by the EU’s Framework Programme for Research

 

showcase the EU’s latest initiatives and contributions to “Better Cities, Better Lives” in various research fields (including energy, ICTS, and food security) and, importantly, how Chinese partners can participate to these initiatives.

 

present and debate ongoing research in the fields of disaster management and nuclear energy involving the EU’s Joint Research Centre and its partners - including the Chinese Academy of Science, Tongji University, and the Chinese Atomic Energy Agency

 

In parallel to the programme in the EU pavilion which will be on invitation only, public events aimed at wider audiences will be organized throughout the EU-China Science and Technology Week in different locations in Shanghai. They will include inter alia science cafés, science shows, and a festival of European science films.
